And REALLY LONG PITCH FORKS

In a video presentation today, Nintendo and Legend of Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma revealed a slew of new gameplay mechanics coming to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Most importantly: MEAT ARROWS.

Thanks to a new mechanic called “FUSE” Link will be able to take objects and join them together, creating updated weapons, traps, tools, and transport. In the video, Aonuma-san shows some of the things that can be joined, like sticking boulders onto sticks to prolong the life of a weapon, or adding a mushroom to a shield to create a cloud of smoke. Link can even add effects to his arrows, like making heat-seeking darts by affixing eyeballs to them, or… wait… we can stick MEAT to them! For what reason, we don’t know yet, but we’re excited to find out.

The mechanic known as “Ultra Hand” (yes, likely named after Nintendo’s famous toy from the Sixties) allows Link to tear items apart, adjust their location, or pull them from afar. Mixing these together will greatly expand upon what players are able to do in the world.

In BOTW, players managed to “break” certain aspects of the world by playing with the in-game physics, but in Tears it appears as though Nintendo is going all in on letting fans do whatever they want to poor Hyrule.

Also showcased today were new abilities that let Link phase through ceilings and drift up into the sky’s floating islands, as well as drop Fortnite-style back to the world below.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is due on May 12th for the Nintendo Switch.

Meat arrows, though, are available with a stick and a hot dog right now, in case you want to practice ahead of time.
