Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition set to make us squeal in July

Nintendo reveals the speedrunning collection

Nintendo’s Switch may be in its waning hours, but it’s not going out as quietly as we thought it might. Today, Nintendo has revealed the recently leaked Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition in full, and it’s EVERYTHING THAT I WANTED WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD.

Now I’m a little older, but I still want it.

Anyhoo, the game is actually a series of 150 speedrunning challenges in 13 NES games, from Super Mario Bros to Zelda, that can be played by one’s self or with friends for up to 8 local players. Online leaderboards and rankings will let players see if they can get to the top, but will probably get crushed by those who’ve figured out how to hack the game and manipulate the rankings for themselves.

It looks dope, and I’m excited. J.J. is excited. You should hang out with us and play it at PAX East, probably. Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition launches on July 18th digitally for $29.99. A special collector’s edition will be sold in stores for $59.99 that includes the game, collectable pins, art cards, and a gold NES cart replica that’s just chef’s kiss.
