Cappy and Tappy hands-on preview

A charming pixel platformer that has smart, asymmetric play with themes of Indiana Jones and Tetris

Cappy and Tappy, First Pancake Studios latest project, puts co-op and asymmetric multiplayer at its core. In the game, one player controls Cappy, a little cute capybara that does all the jumping, and another controls Tappy, a character that drops or destructs Tetris block-like platforms that allow the first player to advance, essentially. And as the game moves on, players get different challenges and different ways to force us to interact together.

There is also a single player campaign, so we can play it ourselves in asymmetric. In this mode our left stick controls one character and our right controls the other, dropping blocks and hopping along.

It’s a smart game, with one character geared towards someone who has played platfromers and the other towards someone who’s a novice and wants to help along. Though I only played in single player mode, I’m interested in giving it a whirl with true co-op (there’s an updated demo right now on Steam for this exact mode).

The game is due sometime in 2026.

SideQuesting had a chance to go hands-on with the project at PAX East. This video first appeared on The SideQuest LIVE for May 13, 2025.
