GUNNAR Loop Glasses review

GUNNAR Loop Glasses review

The latest GUNNAR glasses are light, built well, and make us look like a mad scientist.

Gunnar sends us a lot of glasses. A LOT. We review every pair because A) we sit in front of a computer all day and night and have ruined our eyes, and B) we have both a design and fashion sense. With so many of these glasses reviews under our belts now, we can approach each new product with a strong understanding of what works and what doesn’t. Gunnar’s latest fashion-centered glasses, the Loop, work. They work well.

The version sent to us is the Amber Loops, so they have a yellow tint to the lens to help ease the blue light coming in. We’re used to that tint now — a lot of our own personal glasses have them — and they do a fine job of keeping the world’s colors bright without sacrifice. So that part is great.

But the real value here isn’t just the actual eye protection, it’s also in the design.

This pair has a round lens frame, which makes me look like Marvel’s Arnim Zola super villain. (My face personally doesn’t do well with round shapes.) That being said, these are some of the lightest non-plastic glasses I’ve ever worn. They’re thin, but they’re also really sturdy. The frame is cut horizontally, so that we can break them or bend them out of shape. In fact, that horizontal cross-section adds the capability for an improved hinge, allowing us to overbend the arms to near 180 degrees. We can’t break them. It’s nice!

The rest of the frame is molded in black, with GUNNAR logos and details on areas like the top of the bridge (this makes good when we look down from our cameras and viewers or colleagues see that emblem).

It’s a really great design, and lightweight enough that it’s almost easy to forget we’re wearing them. If it wasn’t for my face not being built for round things then these would likely be my go-to frames for long spells of computer usage and even possibly for daily wear throughout.
