BANANERGY? BANANERGY! Donkley Kong’s latest is packing bunch.
When we first saw the reveal of Donkey Kong Bananza during the Switch 2 Direct waaaaay back in April, we thought it looked neat but we weren’t losing our minds. It was nice for the big ape to finally get a new 3D game, but apart from a shiny coat we didn’t know what was actually beneath the surface of where DK was digging.
Well, Nintendo changed all that with their big Donkey Kong Direct this week, and to put things mildly I was pretty blown away at what they’ve decided to include.
First and foremost, sure. There’s action. We can break walls and the ground and dig and throw things at enemies. Cool. That part was pretty understood.
But what is REALLY ripening our bananas is all of the peripheral stuff around it. Here’s just a small list of some of the things that have us flipping:
GOLDEN BANANAS.
Bananas that can change DK into different forms. Want to become an ostrich that can fly? Sure! That’s plausible here!

Pauline is in this, confirmed, but now she’s a 13 yr old wannabe pop star.
There’s an art mode that lets players chisel away at rocks to create shapes, and I absolutely believe it’ll be used to make less than family-oriented things.
There’s a co-op mode in which Pauline sings and can change how the effect hits.
Gameshare for the game can take place between Switch 2 *AND* Switch 1 consoles.
There’s a new DK & Pauline combo amiibo launching alongside the game, and every Donkey Kong amiibo will be functional, including the Universal Studios bands.
THE DK RAP IS IN IT. Yes, the DK Rap that Grant Kirkhope created and everyone hated but is now making a cultural comeback is IN THIS GAME.
And there feels like more, a lot more. Tons of secrets, treasures, shops, and a big ole’ world map seem to be ready for fans to check out.
Let’s get the bananergy flowing when Donkey Kong Bananza launches on July 17 exclusively for the Switch 2.
