The Evening Report: The Slowening Edition

The lead up to E3 is usually a particularly dry time of year for video game news. Companies are all prepping up for their big unveils while simultaneously trying to stop Tim from accounting blabbing to the first media ear that will open up to him. So instead of ‘The Quickening’ that appears in the Highlander universe, we have the opposite: The Slowening. I will continue to search my ass off for the next stories you need to read, but the stories will be fewer and farther between.

This week we have a Mortal Kombat re-release, details on Star Fox 64 3D and Indie developer game release time. Check after the break for more!

Time for a little inside baseball into the indie world: In the past Indie developers were unable to set the release of their game on the Xbox Live Indie Marketplace. This meant Microsoft would push the game out whenever they felt like it. The indie devs themselves never even knew the release date of their game. Meaning, if they wanted to do an interview with anyone, they would be unable to give the release date of the game. Thus leading to a drop in potential sales because no one knew when the game was going to be released.

So earlier this week, Microsoft gave the reins over to the developers. Now, each is able to set the release date of their own game, giving themselves an easier avenue into marketing and possible promotion. If you would like to read what some of the indies have to say on the subject, check the source link.

In the the coming months, NetherRealm and Other Ocean will be releasing Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 onto the Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation network. Destructiod says that the game will include “Online play, leaderboards, achievements/trophies, along with the same gameplay you likely remember.” For the low price of $10, it will probably be worth it. However, with Mortal Kombat 9 released, I feel I will have a hard time jumping into the classic titles.

Are you looking forwared to Star Fox 64 3D? Well, quell some of your anticipation as the game will not have any online multiplayer. Local multiplayer through the ‘Download Play’ option, will however be available. Just make sure when you get ready to bust out Star Fox 64 3D, you have several friends around to download the game, and play it with you. That is considering they are all too broke to afford the game.
