The Weekend Report: Here is the 3DS! Edition

3DS day came and went. It was a big day, as is the day of any console launch (sans the PSP Go, seriously, that thing is a waste). However, this weekend, not much news came with the launch of one of the last dedicated handheld gaming platforms. In the stead of 3DS news, we will talk about Pokémon Black & White sales, some new projects by Amanita Design and a rumor regarding a new Resident Evil game.

Remember that old Nintendo deal, Pokémon? Yea, well those Black & White games sold two million units in just two weeks. If you are older than the age of 14, it probably isn’t news that people like their Pokemanz, but even this is a remarkable number for the 16 year old franchise.

Amanita Design, known for their visually stellar game Machinarium, has three projects in the pipeline that are nearing completion:

  • Osada, an interactive music video that will hit Amanita’s company site in a few weeks.
  • Botanicula, a deep point and click adventure game that is due out sometime in 2011.
  • Samorost 3, the adventure games to in the series to this point have been browser based, this one promises to be much deeper, and looking for a release on consoles as well as PC and tablets. No date has been announced for this game, yet.

I look forward to all of these releases, as I have stated several times in the past I am a huge proponent for art and innovative design.

Rumor: Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City will be released this winter on 360 and PS3. The game is said to take place in 1998 around the outbreak of the ‘T-Virus’, and it will be a squad-based shooter. Reportedly you will take over the role of one of four members of an Umbrella Security Services team, and be tasked with covering up the outbreak and taking down any survivors. Let’s hope Leon and Claire make it through this okay.

News of the future: Developer Cyanide is working on a Game of Thrones RPG, but not much else to say besides that.
