Eldest Souls brings pixels and boss rushes together again

Brutal difficulty meets brutal bosses

The boss rush genre has exploded over the last few years, and thanks to gameplay mechanic infusions from games like Dark Souls and even Secret of Mana, it seems to be developing a considerable following on platforms.

One possible next project in the category to keep an eye on is Eldest Souls from developer Fallen Flag Studio. First shown off in 2019, the game is now in the home stretch of its completion. It has the 16-bit inspired style that’s a popular aesthetic theme right now, along with an overhead vantage point and some lite-rpg elements. The capability to update and adapt skills and weapons will be a big part of the experience and players explore a giant Citadel housing the Gods that have decimated the human world.

The joy of games like this isn’t just to complete them, but rather *how* battles and fights are won against enemies; each enemy may have a few specific and precise strategies to defeat them, and it’s up to players to understand and figure that out.

Eldest Souls launches on Steam and Switch this Summer.
