Nintendo localizing original Fire Emblem game

Nintendo localizing original Fire Emblem game

The first time the original Fire Emblem will be coming to the US

This year isn’t the only anniversary happening at Nintendo. Fire Emblem first took flight in Japan in 1990, marking 30 years in 2020, although the original Famicom (NES) game never arrived on Western shores.

Until now.

Nintendo has revealed that the original Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light will be ported to Switch this December. Surprisingly, this won’t be a part of the Nintendo Switch Online service, instead dropping as a stand-alone $5.99 download and a fancy limited edition packaged version that includes a clear NES cart, sleeve, and more. The original game set the direction for the series, although it had much more of a traditional RPG spin to it than where the games evolved over the years.

It’s worth it to note that this game was actually remade way back in 2008, for the DS as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, and utilized updated visuals and gameplay that matched the recent Fire Emblem games on the Gameboy Advance.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light drops on eShop and retail on December 4, 2020, and will only be available for purchase until the end of March, 2021.
