Spikes aren’t just for golf shoes in the new game

“Rogue-like” and “rogue-lite” are terms used basically everywhere these days, mostly as a way to identify a procedurally generated game world with some level of restarting. While normally confined to action/platformers, perhaps the identifier is perfect in this case: an action platformer — but with golf!

Chuhai Labs and Thunderful have announced Cursed to Golf, a game about arriving in Hell with the only escape being 18 holes of brutal, demonic golf. The game is firmly a 2D platformer, but players swing their golf club across the many biomes to try and get to a hole. The levels are filled with spikes, fires, pits, fire pits with spikes, bombs, beasts, and everything else you’d expect from a nasty underworld. The clip above shows off a little of the gameplay, which looks like Worms meets Spelunky meets Golf Story.

Cursed to Golf actually looks like a unique mix of several genres, with a charming style all its own. It’s set to launch on Switch and PC in 2022.
