Mortal Kombat movie sequel on the way, Mortal Kombat 12 teased

NetherRealm’s dark and violent world is coming back

The screens are going to get bloody again. Last year’s Mortal Kombat movie reboot was an okay film by all means, but it did enough at the box office and on HBO Max to conjure up a sequel. Deadline is reporting that a sequel is in the works at New Line Cinema, with Disney+’s Moon Knight screenwriter Jeremy Slater on board to pen the script.

There’s no release date, but we’d reckon that to capitalize on the series 2023/2024 is the likely timeframe.

In other MK news, the series is hitting its 30th anniversary this year. To celebrate, NetherRealm’s Senior Production Manager Jonathan Andersen tweeted a (now deleted) congratulatory image with boat loads of Mortal Kombat memorabilia. It also seemed to show off a lite tease for Mortal Kombat 12, as “MK12_Mast” was visible on the monitor in the back, alongside a note from “Christine” to be very weary of what he posts as fans would scrape the internet for teases.

Looks like the mission was accomplished in that respect. Mortal Kombat 12 may be on the way, with news coming soon.
