The Tactics Ogre remake is stealing Starfield’s release date

And it’s a remake of a remake!

One of the most beloved JRPGs, and one of the most influential, is the Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle series. Not only did it redefine what tactical games could be on consoles, but there’s a direct through line to Final Fantasy Tactics, the GBA Fire Emblems, and Valkyria Chronicles. That’s not even pointing out that Triangle Strategy is a modern take on the games of that era, with a snazzy HD2D sheen.

Now, one of the best games in that series, Tactics Ogre, is finally making a comeback.

Rumors have floated around for a while that Tactics Ogre was being remade, even going so far as the PlayStation accidentally listing it last month. Square Enix have finally, formally revealed that yes, the game is indeed in development, and it’s actually heading to platforms this year.

The updated version of the game will feature new visuals (sort of hand-painted? cartoonish pixels?) and a reorchestrated soundtrack, alongside new cut-scenes and voiceovers. The gameplay side will include a more modernized interface and battle system.

For those looking to get into one of the original console tactical/strategy games, this is possibly a great place to start.

Tactics Ogre Reborn arrives on PlayStation, Switch, and PC on November 11, 2022 — THE ORIGINAL STARFIELD RELEASE DATE! Whoa, ballsy!
