Also, it’s isometric. Also it has pancakes.

Wildboy Studios’ upcoming Nitro Kid may touch off on several gaming bullet points that have been rising up my radar as of late.

  • Kung Fu
  • Rogue-like
  • Deckbuilder
  • Neon
  • Retro
  • Isometric
  • Evil corporations

Those are a lot of words! A lot of descriptors! But watching the release date announcement above, I can’t help but be severely intrigued by all of it. Modern gaming is no longer a linear thing, in terms of genres. No, games like Nitro Kid take (good) ideas from a variety of influences and put them together to create something new and yet familiar. I could have SWORN that I played Nitro Kid in the 90s. Or 80s. Or 2000s. Or yesterday?

Who knows.

What I *do* know is that it looks like it’s going to work together real well. The card-based battles seem intriguing in execution, with the game’s sci-fi elements providing ways to make the turn-based action feel that much more fluid and animated.

It looks neat!

Nitro Kid launches on Steam on October 18th.
