DOOM: The Dark Ages takes the franchise to year zero

Back to the beginning of slayin’ demons

At the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase today, the companies revealed the heavily rumored/leaked DOOM: The Dark Ages. The game is set to show the origin of the DOOM Slayer, serving as the starting point for the DOOM 2016 reboot of the series. And hooooo baby is there a lot to enjoy.

Plot-wise, there’s not much that we really need to know. It’s set to be the starting point for the franchise’s lore now, so you don’t really need to know much before going into it. However, it’s the stuff we get to do that we’re really digging:

  • Ride a mecha dragon
  • Pilot a giant DOOM Atlan mecha
  • Use new weapons like a throwable shield saw and a flail
  • BLOW STUFF UP

This is still DOOM, for sure, but the drop into the medieval setting — mixing fantasy with technology — is sure to make the action even bloodier.

DOOM: The Dark Ages looks badass, and arrives on XBox Series X/S, Game Pass, PC and PlayStation 5 in 2025.
