Blighted is the cool new game from Drinkbox Studios that brings them perfectly into yet another genre

You kids like Metroidvania action RPGS? Drinkbox knows you do!

Drinkbox Studios, creators of some of our most favorite metroidvania games of more than a decade, are back with… another metroidvania! Except, as usual, they mix it into another genre and approach it with a fresh new take.

Blighted puts a co-op Action RPG spin on the ‘vania genre. The game tasks players with clearing out the world’s blight; the hook is that when doing so this affects the world, combat encounters, and the general path of the game. Basically, how we take on the blight will change our adventure. The story of the blight itself is wild: in the world’s past, people would be buried with seeds in their brains to grow in trees, which would surround and sustain and protect the village. Eventually someone decided to eat those brains (BRAAAAAAINS!) and infected the world with blight.

The game is presented in full isometric 3D with an intriguing art style, adn Drinkbox claims that it’s going to be their biggest game to date. The co-op nature of it especially could lead to some great aspects that change things up when harnessing and using the blight.

Blighted arrives in 2026 on PC & consoles.
