Felt That brings puppets to boxing, and we are so, so in

Don’t call them Muppets in Felt That: Boxing, just watch for their uppercuts

One of the biggest surprises of this year’s Summer Game Fest showcase must have been the absolutely bonkers Felt That: Boxing. The game by San Strings Studios utilizes Unreal Engine to focus not on realism, but ridiculousness. And it’s charming as hell because of it.

The game tells the story of Ezra “Fuzz-E” Wright as he aims to become a famous boxer, facing trials and tribulations that are written in a comedic way that only puppets can deliver. It delivers story beats, seemingly training-like mini games, and Punch-out style fights to showcase Ezra’s rise (or fall?). The goofy physics, the janky stiff motions, and even the deadness of the plastic puppet eyeballs are all there, but they’re done not with physical properties but purely in-engine data.

When we see games utilize modern engines for ultra-realistic visuals it’s certainly nice to see something like this use that same tech for style. It’s silly and goofy, and we’re all for it.

The team has done a lot of work perfecting the tech’s usage, as seen in a demo reel below:

Felt That: Boxing doesn’t have a release date yet or platforms, but it does have a placeholder page on Steam.
