One of the best Assassin’s Creed games gets a major overhaul
Edward Kenway was a terrific hero in an Assassin’s Creed game. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was a direct numbered sequel to AssCreed III, something that’s become rare now, and featured direct ties to its predecessor. The game was flawed, but only from the standpoint that there wasn’t enough of its goodness to keep us going, resulting in a sequel, Rogue. Black Flag has been regarded as one of the best in the series, easily a Top 5, by fans and even though it had a couple rough edges it really wasn’t in need of being remade.
HOWEVER, MONEY TALKS.
Rumored since at least last year, Ubisoft has formally announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a full-on remake of the game using its updated Anvil engine. The game looks to be a ground up rebuild, removing some features (like the modern day setting and multiplayer) to focus on Edward’s story. New crewmates and updated story elements have been added, alongside CATS AND MONKEYS LET’S GOOOOO.
The original game’s combat has been upgraded to more closely match the more recent games, including the parrying sytem. Parkour and crouch aspects from modern games make their way in too.
The visual upgrades are probably going to be the most obvious, as the game looks to add a lot of fidelity that the original couldn’t handle. There’s even dynamic weather this time around, for even more reasons to stop and grab screen captures.
Black Flag Resynced is headed home to modern consoles (PS5 & Xbox Series) and PC on July 9, 2026.
