Final Fantasy XIV finally comes to Switch 2, plus next expansion Evercold revealed

It’ll be an evercold day in hell when Final Fantasy XIV launches on Switch — wait, what, hold up.

SURPRISE — Final Fantasy XIV Online is coming to Nintendo Switch 2.

The game, Square Enix’s biggest ever money-maker, has been running for over a decade and a half and appeared on several platforms. Except for one, that is: Nintendo. Well, at this year’s Final Fantasy XIV Fanfest the publisher revealed that the game was finally coming to the Red & White console manufacturer’s Switch 2.

Launching in August, the game will be feature complete when it lands with the only caveat being that subscriptions purchased elsewhere will not work on the Switch. Players will need to grab all-new subs there, which is a bummer, but at least it won’t require Nintendo Switch Online and will allow for cross-progression. The launch will be preceded by an online testing period.

Not to be outdone with just that news alone, Square Enix revealed its next massive expansion, Evercold. The expansion will take place in The Fourth, a sort of pocket dimension covered in frost, and be a part of the Godless Realms Saga. It’s being considered so big that it’s a cornerstone of the next phase of the game. It’ll include new cities, level cap bump to 110, two new jobs (tank and physical ranged DPS), and enhanced customization system, among vast other things.

Oh, and you kids like Evangelion? You’d better, or else why would you be on SideQuesting? Anyhoo, Square Enix revealed a crossover raid series, Evangelion: Ghosts of Desire, that will take place in Evercold.

Evercold will launch in Januray 2027 for everything.
