Insomniac debuts nicely violent Wolverine gameplay trailer

Knife hands are good, actually!

During today’s State of Play, Sony and Insomniac debuted a massive gameplay trailer for their upcoming Wolverine game, and boy oh boy does it look VERY GRUESOME.

The interesting thing about Wolverine is that he’s not a killing machine, at least not a mindless one. In the comics he tends to be methodical about what he does to whom — but that really wouldn’t make for a great Wolverine game. So, with Insomniac’s take we get a little more blood and carnage, but also something that looks a HELL of a lot of fun.

The gameplay trailer shows Wolvie on a hunt for someone as he looks to rescue some kidnapped mutants along the way. Homo Superior has gone into hiding, being rounded up by the Reavers. After a lot of fightin’ we find out that the person he’s looking for is Jean Grey, and all madness breaks loose.

As Logan fights off enemies his Rage meter builds up, eventually unleashing a wild attack inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White, and Blood series.

There will be plenty of mutants and X-men (Team X here) in the game, as Mystique, Sabertooth, Leech and Omega Red were also shown in a montage.

Sept 15, 2026 on PlayStation 5. Lock it in.
