Black Ops Cold War finally fully revealed

Black Ops Cold War finally fully revealed

Reaganomics, but with multiplayer

In case you were wondering, there will be a new Call of Duty game this year. Surprise! Bet you didn’t! Okay, you probably did. This year the series bounces back to Treyarch, who are making Cold War a direct sequel to the original Black Ops, as opposed to Black Ops II which was a direct sequel to the original Black Ops.

The plot spans from 1968 to the late Eighties, as players take on flashbacks from the Vietnam War while they make their way through to the US/Soviet nuclear standoffs following the footprints of legendary Russian “spy” Perseus. The game will feature both single player campaigns and multiplayer, branching paths, and multiple endings, and bring back characters from the first BlOps game (hi, Frank!).

Players can create their characters, even allowing them to select gender — male, female, and non-binary… although the latter is strangely listed as “classified.” Zombies is back, too.

The game will feature cross-gen play, and share content with the Free-to-Play Warzone.

The trailer above was shown on PS5 hardware, and a multiplayer reveal is coming September 9th. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is due November 13th for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and later for next gen when those consoles launch. Want to be a little confused? Sure!

Ahem.

The games will be backwards compatible on the new consoles, but if you want to upgrade you need to either spend $10 to upgrade the PS4 version to PS5, or buy the PS5 version which doesn’t work on PS4, or buy the Xbox One version which doesn’t upgrade to the Series X version, or spend the full $70 on the Series X version to be able to play it on the Xbox One.

I’m confused, a bit.
