The multiverse is in full bloom in the upcoming series
Marvel’s cinematic universe has already dabbled in the multiverse. From the first major wisps in Endgame, to teases in WandaVision, to a full-blown plot push in LOKI, we’ve seen the comics giant expand on its universe and history in a plethora of ways. Now, it’s going all in with its upcoming What If..? animated series for Disney+.
Originally a novel comic book idea, What If..? brought unique ideas and takes on characters to the Marvel comics universe, mashing some together and ripping others apart, before inspiring such things as the Marvel 2099 ideas and the Ultimate imprint that bore Miles Morales. Comic books!
Marvel is now bringing that concept to its current MCU. The animated What If..? will follow along the path of the comics, but with an MCU spin in which alternate histories and changes to events drastically alter the characters and worlds within. Agent Carter as Captain Carter? Killmonger and Tony Stark working together? These ideas will be explored, alongside plenty of others, as Marvel’s Watcher character tells the tales of what might have been.
What If..? hits Disney+ August 11th.
