Bayonetta 3 arrives in October with multiple Bayonettas

The baddest witch meets… herself?

Nintendo and PlatinumGames have held Bayonetta 3 close to their chests. Apart from a trailer now and again, we haven’t heard of a definitive release date. In fact, the “2022” date still seemed like it wouldn’t happen, what with so much of the year in chaos entertainment-wise (and news-wise) and release schedules all over the place.

But that fear can now subside! Bayonetta 3 will be hitting Nintendo’s Switch on October 28, 2022. Yes, it’s actually happening!

The newest trailer confirms the date, alongside new playable characters (Viola!) and old faces — including one of Bayonetta herself! Could this lend credence to the theory of multiple Bayonettas in the universe, or in multiple universes? Zach first led us down that path in a recent episode of The SideQuest (it’s our award winning podcast) and now we realize he may be onto something.

The game will also bring in a new Demon Masquerade technique to the Umbra Witch’s arsenal, letting her channel demons that are linked to her weapons, giant demon v demon kaiju battles, and even a family-friendly “Naive Angel” mode where Bayonetta and her friends will, uh, wear more clothing in case your kids are walking around the living room and you’re in a heated battle.

Hmm. Okay!

A special edition of the game will launch as well, but you probably won’t be able to get ahead of the scalpers and get it in time.

Anyhoo, Nintendo also revealed that the ORIGINAL Bayonetta game will get its first physical release on Switch. Previously as a second disc packaged with Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U, and then as a digital download packaged with Bayonetta 2 on Switch, the game will now finally arrive on its own on a Nintendo platform. Expect that on September 30th as a leadup to Bayonetta 3‘s launch.
