Marvel reveals trailers and info for Secret Invasion, Werewolf, Captain America, and more at D23

Phase 5 of the MCU is in good hands… and claws

During its D23 event today, Disney and Marvel let loose a ton of information on its upcoming super hero projects for the next couple of years, and IT’S A LOT. In fact, it’s all a thread, with characters appearing in each others series, callbacks to classic characters, and more.

Secret Invasion

In the first trailer (above) for Secret Invasion, Samuel L Jackson returns as Nick Fury as he takes on the growing Skrulls infiltration across all aspects of the world. The most interesting aspect is what it could mean for heroes and villains we’ve come to know in the past, with some potentially having been Skrulls all along. From the theme of the trailer, it seems to hint at more of a spy thriller style of show, diving deeper into Fury’s character instead of heavy, and typical, MCU action.

Jackson will be joined by Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle as they take on their current MCU roles. The six episode series completed principle filming in Spring of 2022, and will debut on Disney+ in early 2023.

The Marvels

As a fan of Ms Marvel, I’m pretty excited to see where the company takes the “Marvels” heroes. At D23, it was revealed that the three characters (Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, and Monica Rambeau) all share the same type of energy, and in the film something causes them to switch places. Nick Fury is here too, commanding the SABER side of things.

Werewolf By Night

Marvel has finally revealed more info — and now a trailer! — for Werewolf by Night. The horror special will hit this Halloween season, starring Gael GarcĂa Bernal (as the title character), Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone, and Harriet Sansom Harris as Verusa, and clock in at about 60 minutes.

The best part is that it is FIRMLY embracing the classic horror of Universal monster horror movies from the 30s-50s, and we’re all for it.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever & IronHeart

New footage was shown of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that included battles with Namor and the rest of the world, as everyone is gunning for Wakanda’s supply of Vibranium. Importantly, Riri Williams will be in the film, before she transitions to becoming the lead in next year’s Ironheart on Disney+, in which she takes up some of the Iron Man mantle.

Armor Wars

Don Cheadle will return in Armor Wars, and we finally got a new logo. No trailer or other new info, though. More Iron suits!

Loki

Season 2 is fully in the works for the wildest Marvel show, and now the cast will include Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Ke Huy Quan, whom WE ARE VERY MUCH FANS OF. Kang is the big threat in the MCU now, and he’s all over this… as he is in Ant-man & The Wasp: Quantumania, in which new footage debuted at D23 showed that we’ll finally see him interacting with the Avengers.

Echo

The first season of the show just wrapped principle filming, and will go into the big push to get ready for its 2023 release. Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is back and will play a huge factor in the show.

Daredevil: Born Again

The show, which is scheduled for 18 episodes, hasn’t started filming yet — but the Kingpin link is definitely there too as Charlie Cox (who’s also dropping in on She Hulk soon) continues being the coolest Marvel hero.

Thunderbolts

The Thunderbolts cast has been revealed, and now we know who Marvel’s good team of bad guys will be. Expect a lot of action from Winter Soldier, US Agent, Ghost, Taskmaster, Yelena Belova, and Red Guardian. The movie will also bring in Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa when it hits theaters in July 2024.

Captain America: New World Order

The team at Marvel debuted some casting news for the next Captain America film, revealing that the upcoming movie will bring back Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as Cap, alongside Carl Lumbly as Isiah Bradley and Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon. Now word if Bucky will be in it (he probably will?) but we *are* getting the return of The Hulk‘s Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader. It will also add Shira Haas as Sabra, the Israeli hero. The movie arrives in 2024.
