If you think the Steam Machine is going to be affordable…
In yet another sign of the times, Valve has (quietly) revealed that it’s significantly bussing up the price of the Steam Deck, the premiere portable PC platform.
By AT LEAST $240! Holy shiiiiit!
The device was, at one point, an extremely affordable entry point into PC gaming. Now thanks to the chip-obsessed AI world and the constantly-churning shipping and logistics and tariff issues around the world, it’s essentially out of reach for a lot of people.
In a statement online, the company fell on the business sword that was getting sharper, ultimately doing what every other manufacturer has had to do.
The price changes are as follows:
OLED 512GB Steam Deck: $549 -> $789
OLED 1TB Steam Deck: $649 -> $949
Everyone has had to adjust their pricing. Just recently Nintendo brought the price of their Switch 2 console up from $449 to $499, and both Sony and Xbox have had tough times over the last year and a half.

This price change doesn’t bode well for anyone thinking that the company’s upcoming Steam Machine device will be easy on their wallets. The platform, which is supposed to be more powerful than the Steam Deck but sans screen, is still scheduled for this year at some point, but that could change as we wade through the extremely horrific waters.
Gaming is expensive now, and that sucks!
