Wargaming Buys Gas Powered Games

GpGWildmanDays after a failed Kickstarter campaign that caused the company to layoff a large amount of employees, Gas Powered Games has been purchased by MMO developer and publisher Wargaming.

“Being welcomed into the Wargaming family is a truly exciting and defining moment for Gas Powered Games,” Gas Powered Games CEO Chris Taylor told Polygon. “I can’t quite talk about what we’ll be working on as our first project, but rest assured, once we have more to share, you will all hear about it.”

Gas Powered Games developed the popular RPG series Dungeon Siege from 2002 to 2006, and more recently, Age of Empires Online. On Feb. 11, the company cancelled its Kickstarter campign to fund action-RPG “Wildman” after laying off what Taylor said was a “substantial,” amount of employees, some of whom he has rehired. The funding ended four days early, and $595,880 short of its $1.1 million goal.

The Seattle-based developer is the third in a recent line of acquisitions by Wargaming to expand for multiplatform development, including Fear 3 developer Day 1 Studios, and middle-ware company BigWorld.
