Atari Mania remixes classic games to maybe make them actually good again

Ataremix would have been a better name, tbh

Atari has a few cool things coming up to help it celebrate its 50th year. There’s a cool historical game collection on the way, and an awesome LEGO set which I may or may not have purchased. For most companies that may be enough, but not for one of gaming’s originators.

Atari has revealed a special project, Atari Mania, that plucks bite-size aspects out of some of the company’s legendary games and mashes them up together, alongside new visuals and audio. The result is a sort of mix between Warioware and NES Remix, but birthed from Atari.

Let’s be honest with ourselves: very few games from the 70s and early 80s actually manage to hold up. Our nostalgia glasses tend to cover up the many problems and issues the games have. However, going this remix route can rekindle some of that feeling with a sense of lighthearted goofiness thrown in for good measure. There are over 150 minigames in the collection, with plenty that might make you wonder if they were originals or updated ideas.

Atari Mania arrives on everything on October 13.
