Ash does it, finally becomes Pokémon world champ

Ketchum? Damn near killed’em.

Ash Ketchum, the perky perpetual 10 year old Pokémon trainer, has finally done it. After 25 long, grueling years in which he didn’t age a freaking day, the kid went from hanging around Pallet Town to hitting the peak of the Poke-sports.

Yes, ladies and gents, Ash Ketchum has finally become World Champion. He is THE GREATEST Pokémon trainer. That’s it, the top of the mountain, the greatest of the greats, the GOAT.

The feat came during the latest season of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys at the expense of his opponent Leon, of Pokémon Sword & Shield fame. In the episode, titled The Finals IV: Partner, Ash & Leon are battling in the final match, and it comes down to Pikachu to save the day with the winning attack. It aired today in Japan.

This wouldn’t be a story if it wasn’t for the fact that the Pokémon Company has kept this running plot of Ash being unable to “win it all” for TWENTY FIVE YEARS! Sure, he’s won some local tournaments here and there, but never the Big One. It’s added to the mystique, to the point that many fans wondered if this would ever actually happen.

Well, it did.

Nintendo and the Pokémon Company even celebrated by showing it on the big screens in the middle of Shibuya.

Congrats, Ash.
